My clock does not keep the correct time. Is there an XP upgrade to fix this?

Your CMOS battery on the Motherboard may be failing, replace it. The battery
will look like a wrist watch battery.

There is a registry tweak to update the time more frequently but I would
replace the battery.

To change the frequency of checking the time through the internet:

Start Regedit (Start>Run>regedit)
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\Ntp
Client

Double-click SpecialPollInterval in the right-hand pane and select Decimal.
Change the Decimal value in seconds.

NOTE: The value is in seconds. Enter the number of seconds you would like to
update to the correct time. If you want every hour then it would be 3600
seconds, daily would be 86400 seconds.

The battery will only need replacing if the clock resets to 1980 on
boot-up - either all the time or sometimes. Don't bother replacing it
otherwise. If its days, hours or minutes out then William's reg fix might
help.

Alternately, you could download a free utility from
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic-clock/, which keeps your pc's clock
synchronised with an atomic clock across the internet. I used to use this
until we upgraded our server to be a time server.

Hi I have the exact same problem!
There isn't any other symptom just my PC clock keeps resetting to Jan
1, 2000
Its not the battery I tried changing it..
I tried setting up the automatic clock sync. But since the year and
month doesn't match the server the auto adjust just fails..
I get a prompt in the window that says,
"An error occurred while windows was synchronizing with
time.windows.com
For security reasons, windows can not synchronize with the server
because your date does not match. Please fix the date and try again."
It then says the the time was most recently (HA!) synchronized on
1/1/2000!
Anyway the other problem with it is that this auto setting you must be
connected with the server when the update occurs.. I do shut my system
down and really don't stay on it that much...
Also the way the clock keeps constantly resetting I would need it to be
adjusted every time I boot!
Also (Don't know if this will help) when it does reset as the computer
boots I hear 2 quick beeps that come from the hard drive itself (not
from the monitor speakers.) then the computer comes up with a prompt
that says to adjust settings press F1. If I do it takes me to bios..
where of course I can set the date and time...
So is there a way to correct the problem itself maybe disable all auto
clock functions so the clock can't set it's self in any way?
Can that be done? That way if I set it it will stay that way and keep
time till I set it again.. Just a thought?
Please any help would be very much appreciated.
Because quite frankly its driving me crazy! All my e-mails get received
with the date 1/1/2000.. And I thought the usps was slow!! god!
Again thanks to all in advance...

replace battery on motherboard!!! it is coin shaped.
make sure computer is turned off!!
