Windows XP cant find cdrw drive

I updated to XP from ME, suddenly cdrw drive(Samsung 248F)
is not operational.Downloaded firmware from Samsung, when
I try to install get message "Drive not Found!" I updated
my BIOS from HP and the drive shows up on the BIOS setup
screen. There's a big yellow ! next to the drive in
Device Manager. Took computer(HP Pavilion 6736) apart and
checked cables, all good. Also swapped cdrw drive with an
older CD rom drive to see if the cdrw drive is bad, but
get the same problem with the CD Rom drive. Any ideas?
Help!

Try to auto detect it in your bios... Also boot into safe mode and see
if you can find the driver...

samsung are notorious for not supplying updated
drivers ,you may not find one as millions of samsung sd
608 users have found ,try physically removing the cdrw and
restart windows without it ,,then shut down and refit the
cdrw and restart,,if xp has the driver it will instal
it,also check that there is no conflict with other
drivers, firmware is not the answer ,,the correct driver
is required ,,try www.driverguide.com ,,or try going to
nero website and auto detect your cdrw if you dont have
nero 6 installed
