Windows XP bootup loop

Hi,

I have a Windows XP box that my son uses. He has loaded up a PC game,
switched off the PC when it finished loading, and when he has returned
and switched it back on again it keeps going into a bootup loop.

The options it gives are:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally

But no matter which option we choose, it eventually rolls back round to
the same 5 options. It displays the Windows XP splash screen, the PC
manufacturer screen (with options to enter the BIOS etc) but comes back
to the same screen with the 5 options above. Even the LKGC doesn't
work.

I don't know where to start fixing this problem, because I can't get
into the PC to look at anything. We don't have a Windows XP disc, as
the PC was shop-bought, so I can't even boot off the DVD drive.

Has anybody got any suggestions as to what could be wrong, or how I
could fix it?

Many thanks,
Frank.

Hi

If none of those options give you access to Windows you can try a 'Repair'
install of XP - depending on which type of XP CD you have. Please have a
look at the following article by Michael Stevens:

He doesn't have a cd, Will!

Frank - you might try borrowing one from a friend which is the same version
of windows. Or take it to the store where you got it and tell them to boot
to the recovery console and figure out what the problem is. If you hit f8
when the machine is booting up you may get some more options - one of which
should be to tell the pc to not automatically reboot on a crash. this will
at least let you get the actual error it is displaying so you can google it.
