Mike

I had ME on my computer installed and last week bought at
a trade show a "not for sale" Windows XP cd. I had no
idea what it was! Microsoft helped me to register it and
informed me it had come with another computer and it has
been nothing but trouble since! I want to restore
WindowsME, but it won't allow it, my D drive (cd-rom) is
not working now and I am ready to get out the hammer!
All I want to do is get rid of XP and reinstall ME.
Restore doesn't go back far enough for that, too.

Hi,

You can't restore, and unless you were allowed to upgrade you can't
uninstall. See this article if the uninstall option does not exist in Add &
Remove programs (check the Control Panel):

Buyer Beware of such things!

Back up data files, which will get deleted from hard disk, and do a
clean install

Boot the ME startup floppy, and from that run
FDISK
Say Y to 'Large disk support?' then take the option to delete either DOS
Primary partition (C) or a Non-DOS partition which would be the NTFS
one if XP was installed to that.
MAke a new Dos Primary partition, to use all the space released, then
reboot. Make sure you take 'with CD support' and note the drive letter
allocated to it

FORMAT C:
\:
where X is the CD drive letter, with the ME CD in it
SETUP
