Windows XP Automatic Update Notices are Annoying

Brushman

I keep getting the same identical "Security Update for
Windows XP (KB828028)" Automatic Update Notice and have
dutifully gone through the download and installation
process four times, with my Update "Installation History"
Status indicating "Successful" for all four.
(The "Source for the first/earliest one is "Website" and
the Source for the last three is "Automatic Update". I
have also re-booted after each supposedly successful
installation.

Is this the same update, and if so, why does it keep
coming (i.e., at least once every other day)? What can I
do to stop this annoyance, but still keep the option to
be notified of NEW updates? Any help in enlightening me
would be greatly appreciated.

what is your point, xyz? Brushman makes a good point. My laptop has reinstalled the same one patch 6 times now, and on boot up, the reminder still comes up saying I need to download the update. The interesting part is that my desktop PC download the patch in question, and is satisfied with 1 install.

See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Fixes, Windows Update Prompts to Install Hotfix - Manual Entry. If that doesn't resolve your issue, uninstall the KB828028 hotfix, and reinstall it.
