Windows XP and SBS 2000 Server

R

Robert

We just upgraded all of our systems to Windows XP Pro.
The machines range in processor from 1Ghz to 2.2 Ghz with
256 - 512 MB of memory. All of the systems are have FAT32
drives. Since the upgrade the machines access to the SBS
2000 Server has been quite slow. When we go into Word and
open a file from a server folder it can take up to 30
seconds to open the folder.

Any suggestions?

Thanks you.

There are some known issues with XP Pro and network
latency problems. Microsoft says they have a fix for some
of them caused by a OpLockBreakWait issue. They suggest
replacing two files:

Mrxsmb.sys v5.1.2600.1164
Rdbss.sys v5.1.2600.1164

However, these files have not been released yet and if you
want this particular issue fixed (plus a number of others
related to this problem) you either have to pay MS
customer support for it or wait for the next service pack.

No, you *don't* have to pay for it. Please read the
article again:

"NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily
incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft
Support Professional determines that a specific update
will resolve your problem. The typical support costs will
apply to additional support questions and issues that do
not qualify for the specific update in question.
"

If your problem is fixed by getting those files, you
won't be charged.

pack.

If you want to roll those dice, fine. I might call on
someone else's credit card. I am leary of a service that
says they "might" charge you provided your issue qualifies
based on unknown parameters.

I've never had a problem when I've called for hotfixes.
But that's your choice also. But it is misleading to
state a blanket fact that you must pay when myself and
others have not been charged when calling for a specific
hotfix.
