Windows XP and Lexmark Z11 printer problems

I can print even though my computer does not recognize that my printer
is hooked up. I cannot change my cartridge to color because my computer
keeps telling me that there is a problem communicating with the printer. I
also have no idea just how low my ink levels are. I do realize that this is
a bidirectional support problem and that I need to reconfigure my printer
port in order for the info to be exchanged properly. After searching the
Lexmark site and Microsoft site for info pertaining to this problem I am now
back where I started...with nothing to fix it. I am wondering if there is
anyone out there that has had to deal with this frustrating problem. Do you
have the info that I need?? I realize that I should be contacting Lexmark,
Microsoft or where I purchased my computer but I would much rather attempt
to find the info on my own before I subject myself to frustrating phone
calls where I sit and wait on hold for a half an hour or longer only to be
eventually told that I have contacted the wrong place and that I must
contact.....(fill in the blank).

The LPT settings are in the BIOS... which is neither part of Lexmark's
software nor Microsoft's.... it is 'part' of the motherboard.

Look in the manual of the motherboard - or if you do not know which make and
model of motherboard you have, look in the PC manual, for the instructions
on how to enter the BIOS...... It's a keypress at startup, before Windows
(any version) ever starts... however as to exactly which key to press,
varies from motherboard to motherboard. You need to know which is the key
in your particular situation.

LPT port setting should be EPP.
