Windows Xp activation problem

Hi, im facing a problem with my windows activation process. I own a WinXP
home OEM edition on my old computer. And yes i've activated the windows
before. But now my old pc is faulty and i've replace it with a brand new pc.
The problem is i cant activate my windows again on my new pc because it
stated that the cd-key has been activated before. Is there any other way
besides calling the sales representative to solve this matter?

Another thing is i heard that Windows OEM version can only be activated once
on 1 single pc. Is that correct?

Thanks alot

By your own admission, you have an OEM license for WinXP that came
with the Compaq. An OEM version must be sold with a piece of hardware
(normally a motherboard or hard rive, if not an entire PC) and is
_permanently_ bound to the first PC on which it's installed. An OEM
license, once installed, is not legally transferable to another computer
under _any_ circumstances.

You'll need to purchase an new WinXP licnese for use on the new computer.

I have run into this same problem. I understand that it is bound to
the machine that you have purchased it with, however things do go
wrong that would cause you to have to reinstall them onto the machine
that you have purchased it with. In this case you should be able to
reinstall without being questioned seven ways from Sunday, do you have
any advise on how to accomplish this task on the same machine in which
the OEM was purchased with. :)

That's usually not a problem. In fact, OEM Recovery CDs, if they're
the same ones supplied with the PC, often don't require activation at
all, even after a reinstallation, so long as they're used on the machine
with which they were purchased. However, some reinstallations of OEM
licneses, particularly those from large computer manufacturers, require
one to activate over the telephone. Some time ago, Microsoft elected to
disable the CDs/Product Keys from most major OEMs, such as Dell, from
activating via the Internet. This was in response to the large number
of the branded OEM CDs being illegally (without the computer) resold vis
eBay, computer fairs, etc.
