Thanks a lot..

first off, you need a 64bit machine...
if you have one...you *may* find that the 64bit version of XP performs a
little bit better...
however you may not be able to get drivers for many of your periphery
devices...

i just built a 64 bit machine and am dual booting XP_32 and XP_64...
though the XP_64 runs fine and i have all drivers for all devices within the
computer...
i cannot use my printer or scanner...
not only that...I'm not sure if I can really notice a difference in
performance anyway...

I'd say to just stick with the 32 bit version for now...
but once 64bit applications are available...along with device drivers for
printers etc...
then XP_64 may be a good option...
of course by then Vista will probably be out

Vista is the new operating system that's going to be comming out to replace
XP...
it may be a while before it's out an debugged...
so for now I'd stay with the 32bit version of XP sp2.
It will run just fine on a 64bit machine.
If you need just a 'general purpose' machine most any 64bit motherboard and
cpu should be fine...
however if you plan to run some very heavy applications such as Photoshop or
for video editing...
you may want to consider the AMD X2 (dual core) CPU.
The dual core cpu is rather expensive...but really performs well!

Vista is the name of the new Microsoft operating version of WIndows, that is
expected to be released sometime late this year.

Yes.

The alpha 64bit OS used to have a very nice feature. All dlls available on a
system were pre-relocated to have a unique load address. This made certain
that every loaded instance of a dll was shared and that no relocation needed
to be performed when loading a dll. Is something similar implemented in
Windows 64bit?
