When I connect a removable media storage device in my usb
drive (photo card reader) I received the following
message an clicking cancel, continue or quit will not
close the dialog box. "Windows- Write Protect Error" "The
disk cannot be written to because it is write protected.
Please remove the write protection from the volume in
drive\Device\Harddisk2\DR6." I have taken some pictures
with my digital camera and put the memory card in the
card reader and connected it to the usb port on my xp
system. Ive done this dozens of times before and never
had the message come up. I went to start/find and typed
in drive\device\harddisk2\dr6 and it could not find any
such file. So how do I remove the write protection from
his file if I can't find the file?

If I understand the question...I think you may have a
very small slider on your memory card that has been
accidentally moved into the Write Protected position.

.
Hi John, thanks for the reply. I've checked the
SmartMedia card an there is no slider to be found. I'm
sure you are refering to something like the ones on
floppy disks for protecting it from being written over.
Any other things you can think of that might be causing
the problem?

Yes...just like foppies. My memory stick has a slider
on the bottom that is very small and hard to see. It's
labeled "lock". Maybe yours does not have one.

I don't know if this will solve the problem but the
only other thing I can think of would be to format
the memory card. This must be done in the camera
and any files currently on the card will be lost.

The type of software discussed in the following
article may allow you to restore the files after the
format...I have not tried it and cannot guarantee
that it will be successful.
