Windows wont start, plz help!

Error Message i
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

I tried copying the file in from the xp disk in command prompt but was unsuccessful. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

So after I do that, it will reinstall windows xp prof. and my applications and settings will still be the same?

If this problems recurs, try swapping the current RAM chip/s for a single,
high-quality 512 module - even if the current RAM tests good.
