WINDOWS WILL NOT OPEN

I am getting the message that windows will not open because
WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM FILE IS EITHER MISSING OR
CORRUPT, I HAVE FOLLOWED THE RECOVERY CONSOLE AND GET
STUCK AT THE COMMAND PROMPT, TRIED TO TYPE IN INFORMATION
FROM MICROSOFT KNOWLEDGE BASE ARTICEL 307545 AND IT WILL
NOT TAKE THE COMMAND LINES. HELP
