windows will not maximize and fonts are real small

I have a Compaq Presario desk top.
I was booted off the internet.
Everytime I would click internet explorer to get back on to the internet it
would make a copy of the internet explorer icon on my desk top and would not
connect me.
I then decided that I would restart my computer. The screen went black, but
the computer was still on. I could not get it to do anything so I manually
shut the computer down.
I turned it back on and I had a black screen with white writing telling me
that it did not shut down properly, etc. It would not open in safe mode or
anything.
I called HP Support, they walked me through a factory reset.
The problem that I am having now is that the fonts are all off (real small)
and some of the windows maximum buttons are grayed out.
I have enlarged the fonts, however they are not the same as they were and I
cannot get some of the windows to maximize at all.
Can someone please tell me what is going on?
Does it have to do with my pixels, they are set at 1024 x 768, but if I move
them then my windows are all wavy and crooked.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Kelli

If a factory reset to original condition fails, you should consider some tests for hardware damage. (video card?)
