Windows will not load

I opened an email from a friend but I am guessing it had a virus attached to
the download. Now when I start my comptuer when it gets to the blue screen I
can't click on my name to load windows. No error messages. It just stays on
the blue screen with windows logo in the middle. If you try to load in safe
mode or last good configuration it does the same thing and hangs up on the
blue screen. Now I can hit f2, or f12 and I can run the boot partition
utitlity and I found some errors on the IDE disk (2). They just say that
uncorrectable data error or media write protected.
I realize I will have to take my computer somewhere to get it fixed. But
anyone have an ideas on how to attempt to correct the problem? Thanks

See if doing a repair install gets you back in control of the desktop,
if so, do an AV scan from safe mode to eliminate any virus's
