Windows will not boot up after power outtage.

We had a power outtage recently and because of it, if i turn off the
computer, it will not boot to Windows when i turn it back on. I did
find a way through experimentation how to access Windows and the
internet by turning on the computer, hitting the tab button, then F8,
and then selecting Maxcor? Otherwise i get a prompt that says
something is missing. I don't remember exactly what that prompt says
though. Will i have to reinstall Windows to get it to function
properly again? Thanks.

That's not a Windows boot prompt. "Maxcor", is likely Maxtor, a hard drive
manufacturer. You may be in the BIOS and selecting the boot sequence.
Otherwise i get a prompt that says
something is missing.

There are a lot of somethings on a PC!
I don't remember exactly what that prompt says
though.

You need to find out because it's very important. Write down exactly what
it says, and what screens are around it, and re-post it here.
Will i have to reinstall Windows to get it to function

Probably not, but without more information, it's very hard to tell you what
might work.

Well; you could reinstall windows. Especially if your backup is an
image file and you don't have to do so manually. Twenty minutes to
reimage is a lot better than two days to rebuild it all manually.
If you do go the rebuild route, first try a Repair Install; it may
work and in theory you won't lose any data, but you STILL should back up
your data first. Stuff happens.

OR, you could provide some useful data here and get some ideas. And,
what is "Maxcor"? You mean Maxtor? A hard drive? Is it still set to
be your boot drive in the BIOS?

Thanks for you reply. Yes, it is Maxtor. Here is what happens if i
don't select tab, F8, then Maxtor. I get a prompt that says,"No hard
drive attached to fast track controller. BIOS is not installed". The
next prompt says, NTLDR i missing. Press CTRL+ALT= DEL to install.
That's it.

I went into BIOS set up and selected Maxtor as the boot device. I
noticed everything was enabled, except for 32 bit data x-fer. Should i
enable that? Also, i noticed the primary IDE slave and third slave are
not detected. I got another prompt stating that CMOS Checkum is not
installed. Not sure what that is. Thanks again for your help. I am
explaining as best i can with the limited computer knowledge that it
have.
