Windows has never contained "Office"
no version of Vista, XP, or any other version of Windows has ever had
Office.

are you getting confused with microsoft works ?this is included in vista hp
appologies to all of the above .just checked out my compaq on hp website it
was preinstalled with works it would appear that alot of manufacturers
include works as a cheaper alternative to office ''free gift '' type of thing
so again appologies for doubting .
I think it would be a good idea if certain
vendors told us what was on the machine before we buy it as when i bought
mine i had no idea it had works on it untill i turned it on

No, there's no change.
Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.
Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on new computers only when the
computer manufacturer chooses to offer it, and the purchaser is willing
to pay extra for it.
