Currently the Vista Beta (all 2.7GB of it) is only available to authorised
Beta-testers, and subscribers to MSDN.
All questions regarding the Beta should be addressed to the appropriate,
dedicated, forums - MS have just opened public newsgroups for Vista at
microsoft.public.vista.xxxxxxx
(where x is ove of a number of group names - google groups can take you teh
rest of the way - or your ISP's servers should catch up soon, if you ask
them nicely:)

You weren't invited. You don't quality.

Kind of snooty, the *quality* of your post, wouldn't you say?

There's a good reason you can't find it. I don't feel like telling you
though.

And probably won't be until after SP2.

Just ask for the most illegal thing you can think of getting from the
biggest company in the lawsuit/imprisonment prone monitored site, then
just sit back and wait for all the 'quality' advice to come rolling in
:)
What did you expect? Free Windows O/S?

No offense, of course

It's not like it's not for sale yet.

Its in the binaries, you just have to look for it.

I believe it was a simple statement of fact, if worded
poorly.

A perhaps better wording would have been,

"If you were not invited to test the beta version, it is
because you don't qualify."

A good buddy is a local computer systems engineer and owns
his own shop. "Wizard and Company" if you have happened to
see him online. I asked him awhile back why I wasn't able to
find certain software, like the beta version of XP.

My friend, Bruce, said, 'If you can't get it, it's because
it's "Invitation Only."

They send out free copies to us beta testers."

Beta testers-- as I understand it-- don't ask. They hear
it's coming, and then they know it's "out" because they get
a copy in the mail.

To test!

and we're back to:

"You don't have it because you don't qualify."

If you qualified, you wouldn't have to ask for it.

Good luck!

Sounds like gmail and windows live messeger.

I have downloaded the interface (desktop and docking
utilities platform).

From what I've seen thus far, it's for higher-end machines
than I have.

And I get so fed up with Microsoft that they keep deleting
stuff when they "upgrade."

I STILL miss the "WinFile" they programmed into 98 and
Millennium. I've been told "Explorer" replaced it.

Nope! "Explorer" may have been INTENDED to replace Winfile.
It doesn't work the same-- or as well-- IMHO.

BTW, anyone know a good XP-Pro compatible replacement for
that JEWEL known to 98 users as Winfile?

(the routine that was buried in the Windows directory that
looked like a tiny yellow filing cabinet.)

Good luck!

Winfile was a carry over from Windows 3x, even though it was still
supplied with 9x.

Explorer was intended to replace both Winfile, and Program Manager - but
it was never intended to be the same.

You will probably find that the old Winfile will still run OK, but as it
is 16 bit, you could end up with some problems with long filenames etc.

Yep, know it well.
