Windows Vista Screen Saver

My wife has a Gateway laptop with Windows Vista and we are having trouble
getting the screen saver to work. We have gone through the Control Panel and
that route and it shows that it should be working but is not. Can anyone
give this computer illiterate person some help?

You're not specific about the troubles that you are having with Vista screen
saver.
So here goes:
A simple test for screen saver is to choose Windows Energy screen saver and
set the wait period for 5 minutes and see if that works. Also, a program
application or service may be running in the background, such as antivirus
software or a DVD player that is in pause mode and minimized, which may
prevent screen saver from activating. Another thing, if the computer has been
put in the sleep or hibernation mode the past several days instead of being
shut down at night, it might be a good idea to shut down and restart the
computer to "refresh" the OS.
