Windows Vista RC1, May 2nd?

I

Isaac Rosenblum C.

Hi Everyone:
I went to a Technet Conference about Windows Vista, and the guy from MS told
everyone that the RC1 version of Vista, would be available on May 2nd. He
also said that the version to be released would have all the features that
will come in the final Vista version.

Do yo know something about it? Are the date and the RC release correct?

Thanks

Isaac.-

Anything is possible. However 5308, the last beta I have seen, it worlds
away from anything that could be considered RCx material.

Maybe some later builds have shown amazing strides in fixing things broken
in earlier releases, adding new features promised eons ago, but missing in
actions, or repairing new items into something that might actually be
considered useable on the Windows software front.

Again, time will tell.

Did they say anything about posting it on MSDN? The MSDN downloads are
getting way behind.

It's very unlikely. May 2nd is in 2 days time from now on (well, where I am
anyway, British Summertime), so it's very unlikely. They haven't released
Beta 2 yet, which is another huge milestone in any project.

RC0 (Release Client 0), is the stage where they've finished bug reporting
(generally) and are ready with the final tweaks. RC1 (Release Client 1) is
best described as "the builld you get before release to manufacturing".

Expect Beta 2 sooner than any RC build.

Nope, He just said that on may 2nd, the rc will be released, and that it
would have all the final features available in the final version (to be
honest, nobody in the room asked him how, lol)

cheers

Microsoft has made these kind of Mistakes before (Remember MSN Messenger
7.0?).

I understand that, but It's very unlikely that a guy representing Microsoft,
(wearing the black Microsoft TechNet t-shirt), at a Microsoft Conference
would be talking away false roumors. (moreover, I signed-up to that
confference at msevents.microsoft.com).
Again, it's not any false rumor, it's a false rumor said by a Microsoft
Representative, two weeks (I attended that confference in mid april) before
may 2nd.

Think about this, Isaac.

When have you known about an RC1 build being available before a Beta 2 build is available ?
That is, plainly, impossible in a company committed to an honest Beta program.

To think that a product as important as Vista could skip a Beta step is bonkers.
What's likely is that the listener misheard.

Regarding the part about "He also said that the version to be released would
have all the features that will come in the final Vista version", hasn't it
been feature-locked for a while? We shouldn't really expect to see any new
features in future builds, should we?

Both rubbish. Vista is not even at Beta 2. An RC1 usually can't be set
on a particular date: it's a release *candidate*. If it was available in
May, Microsoft wouldn't be delaying a retail release till 2007.

We've been having new features appear through the last 3 builds, and
more are slated in some areas: just take a look at Media Player for
example.

Anybody can where a black Technet T-Shirt and pretend to be an MSDN

just unrealistic.

I have heard that Beta 2 == RC0 in this beta. I think it's a mistake, that
Beta 2 needs to run a full course before we see a RC, but in the end it just
means there will be more RCs.
