Windows Vista locking up during shutdown

I have a Gateway laptop with Vista preloaded. Frequently during shutdown or
logging off for a new user, I lose wireless conection to the internet and the
computer locks up. I have to turn off the computer with the off button, then
deal with possible issues during the next start up. Suggestions?

Something is not exiting gracefully. With Vista, this is often a driver
issue, and since you refer to wireless problems I'd start there. Go to
Gateway's tech support site for your specific model laptop and get all
the latest drivers for all the hardware. Update the drivers.
