Windows Vista Folders not saving

Hi all,

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit on a new Dell Precision M65 laptop

In earlier versions of Windows, we had a "tweak" where we could make a
change to a registry setting and all individual folder settings would be
saved. In Windows Vista, this old problem has raised its head again. I have
tried to add the tweak I used in XP but it has made no difference - some of
my folders are not "remembering" their settings.

Most of my folders use the Explorer layout and I always like the Details
view. However, I have some desktop folders that have shortcuts to apps and I
want their view to be using Medium icons and have a reduced number of
columns, only the Name column.

What I am finding is that each morning when I start up Windows Vista, the
desktop folders that had the Medium icons always revert to the Details view.
This is most frustrating. Does any one else have this problem or more
importantly, does any one have a solution to this problem?

Also, is there any way that I can have new folders always show the Details
view? For some reason, new folders are always showing the Tiles view and
this is a view I do not like.

Regards,
Neville Lang
