Windows Vista Business and Sound Themes

I purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Business and cannot get any
sound themes to work. When the system starts up I hear the Microsoft Windows
Startup sound but when I attempt to change any of the settings in the Sound
group such as Asterisk, Critical Stop, or Exit Windows, clicking the Test
button does nothing, and after applying the change and exiting, none of the
effects playback. Any ideas?

Check in Control Panel > Default Programs > Set your Default Programs,
and make sure Windows Media Player is associated with the .wav file type,
when you click on "Choose defaults for this program."
