Windows Vista 64-bit Performance issue

I just installed Windows Vista 64-bit and the OS is very lacking in
perfornance for example file copies over a network.

On a same 100 MB connection accessing the same share - the Vista machine is
about 15-20 times slow than an Windows XP Pro SP2.

Do I have to wait until Service Pack 1 to address the lack of performance?

Are there any hotfixes that might help my situation?

I am just looking for suggestions on this topic. Maybe something I
haven't tried yet.
