Windows Updates

One of my machines with windows XP will not update windows at all, the copy
has verified but just refuses to update automatically or manually. When
trying manually it checks the copy etc and starts the update but then all
updates fail one after the other, I have tried several things over the last 8
months but nothing.

Any ideas???
