Windows updates do not install.

Updates acquired from Windows Update v4/v5 do not install
properly. Windows Update tells me that all of the updates
have been installed successfully, but after a reboot the
updates are once again in the updates list. These are all
severe and critical updates. I've scanned my computer
using Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 1.2, and it
has told me the supposed updates have not been installed
or are missing. I've looked at the installation history
in Windows Update, all say successfull, yet they are not
installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank
you. BTW, I currently have SP1a installed. The service
pack was included on the Windows XP installation disk.
