I've got Windows Update configured to autmatically
download new updates, the I manually install them. I've
installed Security Update for Microsoft Windows (819696)
five times, and it still downloads to tell me it needs to
be installed. I just recently checked my installation
history, which shows all five attempts at installation
successful.

I'm running Windows XP Home, and the update addresses
security issues with DirectX.

Any ideas on how I can stop this update from showing up
repeatedly would be appreciated.

Hi,

Disable the automatic updates. Uninstall 819696 using Add & Remove in the
Control Panel.

Reboot. Download and install 819696 manually

Reboot. Reenable automatic updates. See if this helps.

To disable/reenable: Control Panel/System/Automatic Updates tab,
check/uncheck the line to keep the system up to date.
