OK,

Everytime I open a new window in Internet Explorer a box opens up with it
trying to install Microsoft Office XP and fails saying that the feature i am
trying to use is on a CD-ROM and not available. I can cancel the box but it
repeats a couple of times before it stops and i can actually use the internet.

Any thoughts what it could be?

Andy,

no, but what happens when you actually insert the Office CD and
let it proceed? Sometimes this helps.

More radical measures could be to uninstall and reinstall Office
and to do a repair installation of Windows.
