I am having a real problem with Internet Explorer -- basically, it won't
work -- and have been forced to use another browser. I can workaround those
sites that only work well in Internet Explorer simply by using my wife's
computer for them.

However, I am concerned that this will mean I can no longer update Windows
on my computer. As you know, if you go to the windowsupdate site using
another browser, it tells you to use IE. Does anyone know if I can work
around this, perhaps by FTP or something?

Thanks.

The first thing to determine is what is causing the problem with IE, and
the first step in troubleshooting that is to make sure the computer is
completely virus/malware-free:

See these steps for instructions:

If you are sure the computer is completely clean and that doesn't help
the issue, here are a few more steps to try:

1. Look in EventViewer for clues and post the results here.
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

2. Did the function work before? If yes, then what changed between the
time things worked and the time they didn't? If you have a clear
cause-and-effect of installing some third-party software, you can try a
System Restore to when everything worked.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
"Restore my computer to an earlier time"

You really need to fix the problem with IE first. What are the symptoms?
