Windows update workaround

I am having a real problem with Internet Explorer -- basically, it won't
work -- and have been forced to use another browser. I can workaround
those sites that only work well in Internet Explorer simply by using my
wife's computer for them.

However, I am concerned that this will mean I can no longer update
Windows on my computer. As you know, if you go to the windowsupdate
site using another browser, it tells you to use IE. Does anyone know if
I can work around this, perhaps by FTP or something?

Windows Update can only be used with Internet Explorer
and not a third-party browser.
