Windows update Uninstall files

Actually, I know thta this has been addressed before but I can't remember
when or in which group!
There are windows update uninstall folders in my C:\Windows folder. They are
formated $Uninstall...$. I know they are there in case I need to unistall an
updte. These updates are also listed on the Add/Remove Programs control
panel item. I remember reading that the folders can be removed, but you will
no longer be able to unistall the update. I also remember reading that the
Add/Remove item can be gotten rid of after deleting the folder by choosing
to remove it from the list. I tried to so and there was no such option. I am
running Win XP sp1. These files are taking up alot of space. Any advice
would be appreciated.

TIA,
Bill

"Hotfixes" are the updates you installed from the Windows Update
website. Do not be tempted to remove them or you will uninstall
the actual updates.

If you wish to safely remove the "uninstall files" for the
Hotfixes (i.e. $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ files shown in Windows Explorer)
and cleanup your Add/Remove Programs list, visit MS-MVP Doug Knox's
excellent website for instructions.
