When I run windows update, my activex does not work, I can no longer play MSN
videos, and I can no longer connect again to Windows Update. It asks me to
register over and over again. The only fix is to restore the computer. This
is a 6 month old Acer notebook Aspire 3000 that I have just started using. I
have restored twice, and every time I run Windows update, there's the
problem. Now, I have let the computer run for a few weeks with automatic
updates turned off, and activex controls work fine. I really want to keep
the system up to date, but I'm affraid to turn automatic updates back on. I
don't want to have to restore the computer again just to connect to Windows
update and have it hapen again. I would really appreciate any help with this
one, thanks.

Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer

Some have reported that simply re-registering the MSXML3.DLL seems to fix the problem.
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL
Press okay

If that hasn't helped you may need to re-registered some more files:

1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :-

net stop wuauserv

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

net start wuauserv

Thank You. Excellent advise. I had to do everything exactly and in order,
so I needed some quiet time to concentrate. I was shocked when it all came
together and worked correctly. Good job. The only side effect, is update
KB923789 Security update for flash player, fails to install. That's OK
though, compared to where I was, I'm happy. Once again and sincerely, Thank
you.

Common problem the Flash player update. Best to totally uninstall Flash (which you now
have to use an uninstaller) and then install the latest flash.
This should get rid of the update.

1. How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
Due to recent enhancements with the Flash Player installers, you are now only able to
uninstall by using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller

2. Then get Flash here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
