windows update recommending installing SP2 on SP2 PC

I downloaded and installed SP2 a month or so ago.
Every day for the last few days update.exe's been sitting in my system tray
attempting to download updates. It's got to 20% then stopped and
disappeared. Investigating a bit more, I found out from the WUpdate install
history that it has been attempting to auto download SP2 beta 2.
A visit to Windows update page led to me being advised to install SP2 beta
2.
How do I test to see which version I have installed? I'm pretty sure it's
version 2 already.
If so then why is it advising me to install something I already have and how
can I prevent all this mad activity every time I reboot?

One worrying thing, the update site tells me
"Warning: Do not install this build over a slipstream installed version of
XP SP2"
What the heck does that mean?

thanks

You running XP SP2 RC1 (build 2096) and it is trying to download the new version XP SP2
RC2 (build 2149).
This is in your message properties and tells me you have RC1
X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2096
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2096
Slip stream is where they have added the SP 2 files to a CD contining their orginal XP and
this won't install over that...They will have to reformat and put XP SP2 RC2 on that way
after intalling the XP
