Windows Update Notification

I used to get notified via a little icon in the bottom of
my computer screen that updates for my computer were
available from Microsoft. No longer tells me and I have
to go to the site here and there. You can see where this
could be a problem security-wise. Any trick to recovering
that wonderful automatic notification??
