This might be a duplicate message...if it is I apoligize...as I am not sure if I posted it correctly the first time

I just bought a used computer with Windows 2000 on it. I am also logged on as an Administrative Account. When I go to the Windows update site...it says "Access Denied"...as I do not have authorization. I must contact my administrator. Well I assume that is on there because this computer was indeed part of a corporate network at one time...but now it is a standalone computer. How do I get access to be able to do the Windows 2000 updates now

Thanks in advance

Katie

Use the Group policy editor
%windir%\system32\gpedit.msc
User Config\Admin Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update and set the
"remove access to Windows Update" policy to "Not Configured"

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately it still will not work. The error message says..."Access Denied...Network Policy Settings prevent you from using Windows Update to download and install updates on your computer.

Any more help you or anybody else can give would be great

Thanks again

Kati

Since you bought this computer used, are you logging into a domain (even if
the domain isn't present) or into the local computer?

Hi

Using regedit.exe, check if the registry value "NoWindowsUpdate"
in the following key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
is set to 1, if so, change it to 0 and reboot your computer.

If that value was not set, or the change didn't help, follow the instructions
here:

Torgeir

Thank you VERY much for the help. By changing that 1 to a zero...that DID indeed fix the problem

Again, thanks alot

Kati
