Windows Update KB828026 installs but wants to reinstall

Posted 2/17/04 - In short, Critical Update KB828026 shows
up as being installed but continues to come up as a
critical update needing to be installed.

Detailed description - I'm a technician who has recently
re-installed XP Home on a client's PC. All the critical
and driver updates have been installed along with a few
of the optional updates. Today I checked for critical
updates and Windows Update KB828026 was listed however,
it shows up as being installed multiple times in the
Installation History.

I've seen one other poster who reports a similar issue
with numerous other updates (See post as of 2/16/2004
3:54:22 PM) but there hasn't been any reply to that yet.
 
It is possible that the hotfix was not installed with
correct priveliges (such as files needing to be replaced
could not be written due to permissions issues:
Administrators group should have Full Control, or the
hotfix setup program did not write to the registry
correctly (another example of permissions problems).
