Windows Update Hangs

I have a server that has two issues concerning Windows
Update.

1) The Windows Update icon on the start menu does not
start up Windows Update. Nothing happens.

2) Windows Update hangs when I try to run it from IE. It
hangs with the "Windows Update -- Web Page Dialog" box
being displayed. The message in the box states "preparing
to download". The only way to trerminate this is to click
cancel or the X (close) icon in the top right corner of
the dialog box.

Please give me some advice.

I would appreciate it.

By the way, this is a Windows 2000 Server with Service
Pack 4 installed.

I also noticed that this issue was discussed previuosly
without a resolution.

Please assist.
