Does anyone know how to get rid of the popup error window
script that tells you that you do not have administrative
rights to update the windows even though you are logged on
as the administrator?

You should not use the Administrator account online because a
hacker who breaks into your system, assumes your permissions.
Instead, set up a User or PowerUser account with just the
permissions you need (e.g. Read & Execute, List Folder Contents
and Read) and protect your system with a router and/or firewall,
if you don't already have one. Better to download the updates
using this User account, then go offline and install them using
the Administrator account, backing up your system before doing so.

I am having the same issue, however, I am only a member in
the administrator's group. I understand the MS propoganda
and I should only use the rights I need, DESPITE THAT,
what will cause someone to receive the message:

"You do not have permission to update Windows 2000.
Please contact your system administrator."

Even when Admin rights shouldn't be at question!

I am running W2K Pro with SP4, and get this each time I
try to install a new windows update.

Are you sure that your Admin account has 'full control' over
all the system files?
