Any idea how to resolve this error on the XP Home sp1 machine (there are
quite a number of fixes in the Add/Remove prog). Thanks

Go to Start, select Run, and type:
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
Click on OK or hit ENTER

Windows XP Service Pack 2 - download (for single PCs also)

Are You Ready for WinXP SP2?

Done that but still give the same error code. FYI, start>menu>windows update
- browser will not open.
start>all prog>windows update-browser will not open
However, if ai launch the IE and tool>windows update - browser will open and
goes to WU page. I have no problem in goingto other website, although some
websites will be display but there is a message at the bottom (above the task
bar) saying that there is error on the display. (Hope this will give some
clue as what is preventing the WU)

Before I plunge into download sp2 as given in your link, there is any other
options since the WU file is smaller than the SP (266MB)

Thanks

Hi, post the WU NG for further assistance -

Windows Update newsgroup:
(OE newsreader)
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate
or
(Web)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&lang=en&cr=US

Have you done any anti virus scans or spyware scans lately - might be worth doing it.

As regards SP2, the advantage of the full download is that you get to keep it and
slipstream it with your original WinXP CD.
The disadvantage of the update site, is that the file is only on your computer for about
10 days after installation. If you need it again, you have to download it again.

WhenI use the pc in question and try toclick the sp2 link, thw pc will not
launch the IE to go t the link. Similarly when I am at the Symantec main page
and try to click on their on line scan, it will not be redirected to the page.
At the moment, the pc ic not protected and trying to get it updated before
installing Norton.

Yes, I have done the on line housecall and found only 1 Trojan which was
deleted.

Thanks for your help ....
