Windows update broken

Hi,
I got Vista Ultimate SP1 on a notebook.Till now, everything worked great for
years.
But shortly, it began to run awol.
My problem is, that my Windows-Update-Software fails to update itself.
It reports the error 0x8007371C
After long search, I found out, that my registry is broken at this part.
Under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Setup\SetupInProgress
Is nothing, this means, whenever I select it, it pops up, Error while
opening entry. Entry Missing.
Can anybody help me?

Yes, unfortunately, I have tried that one before.
I tried it again, today, same result, I have no pending.xml, I have one
pending.xml.bad and several pendin.xmlfolowwingsomenumbers files.
I tried, what stands in the instruction, but it didn't work.
Do you have another help?

I cannot get that link to work to I do not know what it was suggesting but
try this.

In IE go to tools, internet options, advanced, reset, and reset IE. This
should fix the problem.
