pending.xml missing

Hi, I have problems, installing the windows update software 7.2.6001.188.
It always fails due to error 8007371c.
I tried anything imaginable, but it didn't work.
In my windows\winsxs the pendin.xml file is missing, and in the registry
HKLM\offline_components\ is nothing resembling to delete.
There were some other files, as pending.xml.01c91bcdadd3a830
I removed them into another non OS directory while in repair mode.
But it changed nothing.

Please Help!

No, it didn't work.
My pending.xml is missing.
Always error 0x8007371c

Hello Maschdel,
Pending.xml only exists on your system if an update requires action to take
place after a reboot.
Not all updates would require it present and it would only be present
during the installation time and the subsequent reboot.
On the reboot we check the pending.xml file, if it exists there are
installation actions that need to take place to complete the installation
of the updates.
If the update doesn't install and errors out, it has no pending actions
that need to be recorded and acted on after the reboot takes place.
You didn't get that far in the installation process if that update needs to
generate a pending.xml file.

Dear Darrel,
Thx a lot for your information.
At least nw, I won't look for a missing pending file anymore.
But this still does't sole my actua problem.
I got Vista Ultimate and Office 2007.
I never had a problem, untill WU tried to install the
Windows-Update-Software 7.2.6001.188
It always fails reporting error 0x8007371c

I have done everything, that is written in any forum or help -actually this
error doesn't exist due to MS help.
Please help me, it's driving me nutts.

Hello,
What are there error message listed in the: c:\windows\Windowsupdate.log?
Locate the error message in the log file post that line and the next 10
lines.
The entire log would be too large to post, so this should be enough to give
us an indication ( hopefully)

I concur. The web interface seems to have stopped working the
past couple of days, and on it I've been unable to post, or to
view recent entries.

I've subscribed via a newsreader instead and that works fine.

This isn't a forum; it's a newsgroup. The reason you're having such
problems is that you are using the awful web interface to read this
newsgroup--it's the slowest, clunkiest, most error-prone method there
is. Do yourself a favor and switch to a newsreader, such as Outlook
Express, which comes with Windows XP, or Windows Mail, which comes
with Vista. See

Firstly you can't have OE and Windows mail on the same machine, secondly in
XP and later you CAN'T "delete" either OE or WM and thirdly this is not a
Vista question.
Try posting in an Outlook group...

Yeah, very funny.
I started this due to a failure of windows update and some other people
changed topic.
Now, my Windows Update still when I open it, says that there is a newer
version available and in order to install, it closes the program
automatically, then restarts it and says, upate failed, try again. I tried 10
times in row, nothing new.
And on my tray, there is an icon of Windows Update, whenever I start Vista,
saying, x% downloading. When 100%, it restarts automatically Vista, trying to
install on reboot, but 3out of 3 fail.
Then redownloading and again the same.
I am running out of ideas.
Help me please.

Did you run the checksur tool to check your system for corruption?

Try running this tool and see if it helps, if it does not check it's log
file to see if it reports something else.
I suspect that some registry entries are not present or corrupted.
