windows squiggle files - what are they?

I've recently noticed that a white windows folder appears
on my desktop after i use certain applications such as
address book/ word document and I can only describe these
folders as white rectangles with a single line squiggle
on them - I delete them but they reappear later and can
never be accessed. Does anyone know what these are and
how to get rid of them?

It's an OE bug. OE sometimes makes a copy of your address book and
then doesn't get rid of it. Just delete it.

Applications like MS Word make temporary copies of any
document you have open, until you close them again. If the
documents are on your desktop, then that's where it makes
the temporary files starting with a squiggle also. Keep
them somewhere else and it'll go away!

The character you mean is the Tilde (~). This file is actually a copy of
your address book and it's presence is caused by a bug in OE. MS are
working on a solution but for now just delete it or leave it...
