Windows shutting down

M

muppet

All of a sudden in the last few days, Windows Xp has been
shutting down on me by itself.

I will be playing a game or surfing the web when a popup
box appears saying:

System Shutdown
This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY|SYSTEM
Windows must restart because Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Service terminated unexpectedly.

Does anyone have any clue why this has all of a sudden
started happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS I have also tried using the System Restore and that
has not seemed to help

I have exactly the same problem with Windows XP home. It
started after my son used MS Messenger for the first time.
Has anyone referred the problem to Microsoft ? It seems to
have been reported by a number of people today.
Do we have a definitive cause and solution yet ? Many
thanks
