Windows shutdown

Windows XP Home Edition was shutting down properly and
even though I have not added anything recently to my
computer It now does not shut down properly. It goes
through up to the point where it says "Windows now
shutting down" then it hangs there. I've checked for the
sasser and msblast and check for viruses and my system is
clean. What could be causing it to hang?

There is one program not shutting down properly which prevent windows from
shutting down. If you let it sit for a few minutes will you get a message that
reads 'this program not responding'? If not remove one item at a time from
the bootup until a shutdown is successful.
