Windows shutdown problem

After installing all service packs and patches I find
Windows takes at least 5 minutes to shut down with the
hard disk light on constantly. This happens every time I
shut down. It seems that one of the updates causes this
but I don't know which one. It happens every time I
install all the updates. I usually install all the
optional components on the Windows XP CD as well and am
wandering whether this has something to do with it. If
other people who have installed all updates but not the
optional components don't have the problem it points to it
being caused by one of these optional components. Does
anyone else have this problem? I'd like to hear from
people who have installed every update please and either
do or don't have this problem.

I have installed all of the updates and i dont seem to have any problems
with shutting down.
Do you drfrag your hard drive regular, i used to find it was very slow if it
was not defragged properly.
I have since installed norton worrks and this tells me when the drive needs
to be defragged and also tells me about any problems with the drives etc.
May be worth you getting hold of a copy.
there is also a programme called Executive Software Diskeeper which is the
full version of disc defrag which comes with all versions of windows.
The full version is much quicker and does a better job.
Maybe worth taking a look at the defrag side of things.

Hope this helps.
