Windows Shutdown problem

I am having a problem that when I try to shut down or
restart wndows, it starts the process, but when it gets
to the window that says "Windows is shutting down" it
locks up and will not continue the cycle.

Does anyone know what may be wrong?

The computer is really locked or it's just getting too much
time to shut down? When this problem started to happen? Are
you connected to a network? Check on the internet to see if
there is any patch for your computer. Did you installed all
services packs (and corrections) for windows XP? Maybe
there is one for this kind of problem..
