windows settings conversion to new computer

I am currently operating on Windows 2000 and wish to save
all of my preferences, passwords, settings, favorites,
etc. to a different machine with Windows XP. Once I
locate and save these files/folders do I simply copy them
to the corresponding directories on the XP machine?

There is a Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Windows XP that you can
use for that. Can't say how well or not it works as I haven't used it.
