Windows Security Alerts

I have always selected the option to have updates downloaded automatically
and for me to choose which to install. Installed Norton AV 2009 version
about 3 days ago. Yesterday, I got the red icon on the task manager telling
me that the auto update was off. I have tried to turn it on without success
and the windows update site is giving me problems as well. Have ran scans
with Adaware/Spybot/Malwarebytes/Norton AV and nothing shows. I think a rogue
program may have changed either the registry or my services group. The
service for Automatic Updates is missing as are the 2 required registry
entries.
Any step by step help or suggestions please to affect a correction

No. I have unistalled using the AV Removal Tool and the issue was still
there. So I reinstalled The AV for portection. I seem to be missing the
services files and the ability to do Background Intelligent Transfer Service
which I think is causing the Windows website issue. Just not sure how to fix
