Since running the SP2 upgrade, when I click on START, SEARCH, FOR
FILES OR FOLDERS
My PC freezes and my only option is to Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart or hit
the power button - nothing else responds.

PC is a 3 month old Dell Optiplex running XPpro SP2

I've run chkdsk and sfc /scanonce - nothing erronous reported in the
Event Viewer

I do need to use the search facility very often so any suggestions as
to how to recover ti would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Pete

Hi

Please try the following link to Kelly's web site:

"Why doesn't Search work?"
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

Sorry it's taken a while to report back, but I've been away.

I installed the file as suggested on kellys-corner, but it made no
difference.

I tried running search again and I checked CPU usage - it was varying
between 75% and 90% for about 10 minutes, (in the Applications window,
Windows Search was reported as Not Responding), then I went out. When
I came back 20 minutes later, the search window had appeared !

I tried performing a search, and once again CPU usage fluctuated
between 75-90%, but after 10 mins of nothing happening I got bored and
re-booted.

Any more help will be much appreciated

thanks
Pete
