<windows root>\system32\hal.dll. ERROR Message

Anyone Please Help!! My computer won't start up. When I turn it on, I get a
blank screen and an error message that I need to reinstall the "<windows
root>\system32\hal.dll." file because it is corrupt or damaged. I hit any
key and the computer tries to re-start but I continue getting the same error
message. I bought my computer with all the software preloaded so I don't
have a startup disk available to reinstall any thing. Any suggestions? I'm
ready to slam the piece of junk against the wall.

This is most often caused by a corrupt (or missing) C:boot.ini

You need to fix it, and the easiest way is to run Fixboot from the XP
CD (know anybody running XP? )

Might be time to learn about Linux http://www.knoppix.org/ Boot up
with the CD, mount the partition and then edit the boot.ini that way.

The computer vendor has to give you some way to restore the system.
They have three options.

1. Install CD
2. Recovery CD
3. Hidden partition on the drive with an image of the system as it came
from the factory.

Check the documentation that came with it or contact the computer vendor
tech support for info on how to restore.

Will gave you a link to some information on dealing with this error.
