Windows - Registry Recovery Window

C

Chris B.

I am running Windows XP Pro on a new custom made PC. When it starts up a
narrow and long (horizontal) error window appears"

"Windows - Registry Recovery (greyed out) (then full contrast) One of the
files containing system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log
or alternate copy. The recovery was successful"

"OK"

This is all there is. The desktop appears behind this okay.

I click the "OK" and the error window disappears and the desktop is fine.

Any ideas? Thank you very much.

Hmmm no idea... You keep your registry clean with a program? Can try
CCleaner which is free and has a nice registry cleaner if this is registry
related.

Registry cleaners are often the cause of such problems, not the cure. They
are a snake oil remedy. There is no need to routinely clean the registry.
When changes are needed do so manually. A registry cleaner can be ok if
used only for suggestions on what to change, but those must be researched,
and there is no need to remove entries just because they are orphaned. Only
do so when there is a problem.

Chris, there are a variety of reasons why registry corruption occurs. See

I recommend using ERUNT by Lars Hederer to routinely make a backup of the
registry. This can be done as a scheduled task, and when set up properly, a
backup of the registry can be restored from the recovery console in
situations where a registry problem prevents XP from booting.

Chris,
I've got the same problem. It doesn't appear in the safe mode, with me. I've
just installed 2 harddrives in Raid0 and reinstalled all my software and then
it started to happen.I'm running Windows media center .
